Sensory integration training
Applying the methods of sensory
integration training, brain-injured children such as cerebral palsy, sequelae
of encephalitis, mental retardation and autism are treated in our department.
In this training, various kinds of special appliances are used; vestibular,
tactile sensation and proprioception are stimulated to correct sensory
integration dysfunction in these children. According to the different
severity of their motor impairment, doctors will determine individualized
training plan. And the trainer will give them different exercises to make
them maximally motivated and cooperative in this and other training. With
the company of child's caregiver in this training, it can build a positive
interaction between child and caregiver. From our practice for many years,
there is evidence showing that children trained by this method have made
marked improvement in motor ability, attention, emotion and other aspects.
Recreation and music therapy
CP children have various degree
of defect in intelligence and physical function. For the aim of facilitating
their compliance for training, strengthening attention, improving movement
coordination, promoting interpersonal communication and social adaptability,
encouraging their training and learning motivation, we have applied the
recreation and music therapy for CP children. Through music games, musical
instrument training, singing nursery rhymes and songs, enjoying music,
it may be helpful to induce and correct their vocalizing, enhance their
expressive capability, promote their active and coordinated movement,
cultivate their imagination and aesthetic judgment, and hence, ensure
their normal psychological development while improving their physical
condition.
Intelligence training for
CP children
Brain-injured children are
often complicated by mental
retardation. It is one of the most important factors reducing the
quality of life for these children. During their stay in the hospital
for rehabilitation, based on the characteristics of child growth and development,
we will adopt individualized, stepwise plan with prompt feedback and consolidation
teaching methods to develop children's intelligence. Therefore, while
improving their physical condition, we will also manage to heighten their
intelligence. And thus, we may broaden their rehabilitation efficacy,
enhance their future ADL capability, and set up the foundation for timely
school life.
Conductive education
Conductive education, an educational
system, which was developed by professor András Pet?, a Hungry psychologist,
neurologist and also an education expert, aims at how to teach the patients
with movement dysfunction and integrate them into the society. Under the
guidance of conductor, it works in groups through planed daily tasks,
using special education apparatus, and rhythmic and intentional speech.
They will learn how to overcome their physical, intellectual, speech,
and personality defect, and heighten their social interaction ability,
etc. Through rhythmic and intentional task series, disabled children will
buildup their cognition about human figure, space and time; and it will
also strengthen their attention, thinking, discrimination, and language
reception and expression. Conductive education creates a harmonious, interesting,
and competitive, imitative learning environment, thus it can improve children's
motor function, and also heighten their intellectual and speech capability
at the same time.
Classroom for parents with CP child
To meet the parents' need for
rehabilitation knowledge, we have set up a classroom for parents with
CP child. Monthly, doctors, nurses and therapists will give lessons about
nursing, nutrition , feeding, and various kinds of treatment for cerebral
palsy. Thus, the parents/caregivers will better treat their child, and
the child be well prepared for integration with family. The parents/caregivers
appreciate the classroom very much. And we will try our best to make the
classroom better and better by various methods.
